The “virus” word is widely used by people who have good computer knowledge until the newbie, most of them define virus as malware programs. Then what malware programs are? In simple words, it’s malfunction software, software that run and act not the way it designed. In fact, some hacker create this kind of software to damage another programs in your computer, deleting important or any files stored in your hard disk or in some cases the reformat the hard disk. Other type of virus just shows off their presence by presenting text, video or audio messages.
All viruses will use your computer memory, need some space in your hard disk and might intrude to your devices. In short, virus will ruin your system or at least will make your computer so slow. But pay attention where your computer is so slow, because this slowness is not always affected by viruses. A virus can only spread from one computer to another when its host is taken to the uninfected computer, for instance by a user sending it over a network or the Internet, or by carrying it on a removable medium such as a floppy disk, CD, or USB drive. Additionally, viruses can spread to other computers by infecting files on a network file system or a file system that is accessed by another computer. Viruses are sometimes confused with computer worms and Trojan horses. A worm can spread itself to other computers without needing to be transferred as part of a host, and a Trojan horse is a file that appears harmless until executed.
Almost all of computers are now connected to the Internet and to local area networks; this network makes new media for viruses to spread out. Today’s viruses may also take advantage of network services such as the World Wide Web, e-mail, and file sharing systems to spread, blurring the line between viruses and worms. Furthermore, some sources use an alternative terminology in which a virus is any form of self-replicating malware.
